phimtober (halo, treat)

The sun falling perhaps would suggest a nearing bedtime--but not for the two adventurers on their date. The orange glow of the sun caught on Kokoro's halo, making it almost seem to glow. It gleamed on Rofaran's silky dark hair, making some strands appear orange as well. Fallen leaves in brilliant yellows and oranges littered the ground, Kokoro's paws pressing on them softly, while Rofaran's claws dug up the dirt underneath them slightly.

The sounds of the crackling campfire guided their steps, the warmth of it nice after spending so long in the dark shaded corn maze. "I never thought we'd get out," Kokoro finally murmurs, her voice relieved but tired. Rofaran chuckled softly, and her head immediately swiveled to look at him. His smile lingered for a moment before returning to his typical stoic expression. It was a shame that she never seemed to catch him smiling for long. A soft pout fell on her expression, although it dissipated when he spoke.

"We weren't ever actually lost," Rofaran offered. "I always knew we could get out, but you were so stubborn about finding the way out yourself."

She scowled softly. "And what of it? Are you making fun of me?"

He raised a brow. "I'm stating that your directions never made us lost."

Kokoro sighed. "Only because of your clear sense of direction and skill, right? Mister-I-Make-Maps-For-A-Living?"

"It's called being a cartographer," he supplied usefully. There's a moment of pause, the two making eye contact as she waits for him to answer. "But yes."

"Then why did you let me try in general? Just to see me fail? So you could make fun of me afterward?!" Kokoro exclaims, loud enough that a few other guests look over. She clears her throat awkwardly, breaking the eye contact to look down at her paws.

"No," he quickly supplied in response, looking a bit surprised. Rofaran looked at her for a moment before averting his eyes. "It just seemed like you really wanted to, and you thought it'd be fun. So..." he trailed off, not looking at her.

"...You just wanted me to have fun?" Kokoro questions hopefully, a bit in disbelief. She takes a few steps closer to him to try to read his expression, but he turns so that she can't. She could've been fooled by the warm glow of the setting sun, but she swore there was some warmth in his cheeks. "Reeeally?" She couldn't hide her excitement about it, so she ended up teasing him. She pressed her tail against his, and he flicked it in response before beginning to move towards a refreshment stand.

Awh... she must've teased him a bit too much. She giggled softly under her breath before jogging to catch up with the taller phim. "Where are you going now?" She asked, and he looked back at her, the expected stoic expression on his face.

"You said you'd buy me a drink, right?" He asks, tilting his head.

"Yup! It's my treat!" Kokoro said cheerfully. "Maybe we can get a mug and take it by the bonfire and sit there for a bit," she mused, and he nodded his agreeance.
